What to Do If Your Resin Liquid Pigment Has Dried or Thickened
Share
If you’ve opened your resin pigment bottle and noticed it's become thick, clumpy, or dry—don’t panic! This is a common issue, especially if the bottle hasn’t been sealed properly or is stored in hot/humid conditions. Here's what you can do:
🔹 Why It Happens
- Exposure to air: Pigments start drying when the bottle isn’t tightly closed.
- Heat & humidity: Environmental factors can cause pigments to thicken or form clumps.
- Old stock: Resin pigments also have a shelf life.
🔹 Quick Fixes
-
Hot Water Bath
Place the closed pigment bottle in warm (not boiling) water for 5–10 minutes. Shake well after removing. This helps soften the pigment. -
Mix with Clear Resin
If it's semi-dry but still mixable, blend it directly into a small amount of clear resin. The resin acts as a medium and can restore fluidity. -
Use a Mixing Stick or Toothpick
For thick pigments, scrape out a small amount with a stick and dissolve it directly in resin instead of trying to squeeze it from the bottle.
🔹 What Not to Do
- Do NOT add water or alcohol—it can affect your resin’s curing.
- Avoid microwaving the pigment bottle—it may melt or release fumes.
🔹 Pro Tips to Prevent Drying
- Always close the bottle tightly after use.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
- Use pigments within 6–12 months for best results.
